Tesamorelin nie jest szeroko zatwierdzony w Europie do rutynowego zastosowania klinicznego w taki sam sposób jak w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Mimo to pozostaje dostępny w niektórych środowiskach badawczych, recepturach aptecznych oraz wyspecjalizowanych placówkach medycznych, zależnie od kraju i lokalnych przepisów. Tesamorelin jest najbardziej znany jako substancja aktywna leku Egrifta SV®, który został zatwierdzony przez amerykańską Agencję Żywności i Leków (FDA) do redukcji nadmiernej trzewnej tkanki tłuszczowej u dorosłych z lipodystrofią związaną z HIV [1–3]. W Europie tesamorelin nie uzyskał szerokiej autoryzacji Europejskiej Agencji Leków (EMA) do standardowego przepisywania na terenie Unii Europejskiej, dlatego jego dostępność pozostaje bardziej ograniczona niż w USA.
